Crystal Rose-Fricker Honored with Golf Inc.’s 2026 Hilda Allen Award

A recognition from the business side of golf that shines a light on the role turfgrass plays on every course

Pure Seed and Pure-Seed Testing are proud to share that Crystal Rose-Fricker, President of Pure Seed and Pure-Seed Testing, Inc., has been named a recipient of Golf Inc.’s 2026 Hilda Allen Award.
Now in its fourth year, the award honors women who lead with vision, grit and generosity. For Crystal, it is an especially meaningful recognition, because it comes from a part of the golf industry that views the game from a different angle.
A Different Lens on the Golf Industry
Golf Inc. is the world’s only magazine for golf course developers, owners and management company executives. Its readers are focused on the business of golf: developing, owning and operating courses, clubs, resorts and golf communities.
Crystal’s work starts somewhere else, with the grass itself. For more than 40 years, she has focused on developing turf and forage grass cultivars, more than 400 in all, for golf courses, sports fields and landscapes around the world.
Why This Recognition Matters
Being honored by a publication that speaks to the people who build and run golf courses is a powerful acknowledgment that the grass on the course is a significant part of a course’s success. The turfgrass chosen for a project shapes playing conditions, water use and long-term sustainability, which are the decisions owners and developers care about most.
That is the thinking behind much of Crystal’s work. She developed the world’s only commercially available seeded paspalum, which offers salt tolerance and sustainability benefits and is used in more than 60 countries. Through her leadership with the Turfgrass Water Conservation Alliance, she has helped advance drought-tolerant grasses that let superintendents use water more efficiently while maintaining quality playing conditions.
She also serves the wider seed and turfgrass community, with leadership roles at the American Seed Trade Association (currently Vice Chair), the Turfgrass Breeders Association, the Oregon Seed Association and the National Turfgrass Evaluation Program.
An Honor for the Grass Beneath the Game
Recognition from Golf Inc. reaches the owners, developers and operators who decide what goes into the ground. It is a reminder that great golf starts with great grass, and that turfgrass breeding belongs in the conversation about how courses are developed and managed.
Congratulations, Crystal, on this well-deserved honor. Thank you for your leadership and for the work that helps golf courses around the world thrive.
