Tetibear – tetraploid annual ryegrass
Attributes
Tetibear is a new tetraploid annual ryegrass released by Pure-Seed Testing, in Canby, Oregon. Tetibear is a great choice for pasture overseeding or mixing with other pasture grasses or legumes due to its ability to establish fast with impressive per acre yields. TetiBear scores very high in protein making it an exceptional variety to improve animal performance in any pasture or hay field.
Traits
- Perfect for alfalfa or clover mixtures
- Highly palatable, digestible, and nutritious
- Increased animal performance levels
- Quick establishment
- Great crown rust and stem rust resistance
- Drought tolerant
- Late maturity
- Increased stand persistence
- Excellent seeding vigor
Uses
Silage / Hay / Grazing
When planting Tetibear by itself plant a seeding rate of 30 to 40 pounds per acre. If mixing with an alfalfa or clover plant 4-8 pounds per acre.
Tetibear is one of the fastest grasses to establish. It will usually germinate in 4-6 days, and can be pastured in 3-4 weeks.
For best results apply nitrogen in split applications during early spring, fall and after first cutting.
Add adequate phosphorus and potassium for top production.
Tetibear is generally cut for hay when seed heads start to emerge. Pastures should be on a graze rotation when spring growth is 3 to 6 inches high. Allowing 7 to 10 inches of regrowth between grazing will benefit yield and persistence. On new seeding, harvest or grazing should be delayed until pants are 10 to 12 inches tall.

Meadow Green – festulolium
Attributes
Meadow Green is well adapted throughout regions where climatic conditions get humid and cool at points in the year. Meadow Green was selected for it’s quick early vigor and its disease and salt tolerance. Meadow Green can provide excellent yields and nutritional value and is adapted to wide range of climates and soil types.
Growth Habitat
With Meadow Green’s excellent early vigor, it can establish very quickly. Meadow Green is an improved festulolium that can grow very well in cool damp regions while having the disease resistance necessary to grow in regions of high humidity.
Plant Characteristics
Meadow Green is a tetraploid festulolium, which is a cross between meadow fescue and several tetraploid Italian ryegrasses. It is a prolific forage producer with very high total digestible nutrients. Meadow Green takes the best traits of fescue and Italian ryegrass—it is highly palatable, high yielding, and has great nutritional levels, while being susceptible to the stresses that fescues can tolerate.
Uses
Silage / Hay / Grazing
Meadow Green is a very versatile forage grass and can be used for grazing, silage, or hay. It is excellent for planting alone or blended with other forages. It works extremely well with legumes.
It can be mixes with a white clover or Cicer milkvetch for grazing, or with a red clover, such as Emarwan, for excellent silage, green chop, or hay production. If planted alone, the recommended seeding rate in North America is 25-30 pounds to the acre. For maximum production and quality harvest at early boot stage for hay production.
Fertility
Total fertility needs are dependent on the intended use of the crop and the environment. Generally the crop could use 300 units of nitrogen annually. Mixing with clover reduces your fertilizing needs. (plus balancing the nutrients).

TetraGain – tetraploid perennial ryegrass
Attributes
TetraGain is a new tetraploid perennial ryegrass released by Pure-Seed Testing, in Canby, Oregon. Originally selected in Belarus, TetraGain is extremely productive under cool and damp climates. Later screened for yield, disease resistance, and forage value, TetraGain is proving to be an exceptional variety.
Fertility
TetraGain is one of the easiest grasses to establish. It may be sown on clean-burned stubble, prepared or unprepared seedbed. TetraGain will tolerate wetter soil conditions.
Uses
Cutting / Grazing
Plant 20 to 25 pounds per acre for hay and pasture production. Increase seeding rate up to 25% for no-till seeding and up to 50% for broadcast seeding or poor planting conditions. Cut seeding rate approximately in half when planting with alfalfa or clover mix.
When seeding into prepared seedbed, lime and fertilized according to a soil test and control weeds for best results. At planting, applying 35-40 lbs/acre of nitrogen fertilizer is recommended to ensure good establishment.
In prepared seedbed, seed should be covered with ¼ to ½ inch of soil with either drag chains behind the seed drill or using a drag harrow for covering broadcast seeding.
Pulling a cultipacker or light roller over the field after seeding will give good seed-to-soil contact and promote more vigorous seedling growth

Silage / Hay / Grazing
Cowgirl is highly versatile forage grass and can be used for grazing, silage, or hay. It is excellent for planting alone or blended with other forages.
Cowgirl works extremely well with legumes, such as a white clover for grazing or a red clover to produce silage, green chop or hay. It also mixes well with vetch. If planted alone, the recommended seeding rate in North America is 25-35 pounds to the acre. For maximum production and quality harvest at early boot stage for hay production.
Fertility
Total fertility needs are dependent on the intended use of the crop and the environment, but generally has low fertility requirements on moderate soils.

Giant – soft leave redtop bent
Attributes
Giant is broadly adapted to a wide range of soil and weather conditions. It thrives in cool moist habitats and is best adapted to the northern states but has been successfully established in a wide range of climatic conditions, especially with management and irrigation. Giant is best adapted to mesic to semi-hydric soils, and is well suited to areas receiving 18 to 40+ inches mean annual precipitation. Giant is tolerant of poorly drained and sub irrigated sites and sites that are frequently flooded, and it is adapted to soils with a pH of 4.5 to 8.0. Giant also has a high tolerance to salinity.
Plant Characteristics
Giant is a fast establishing, high nutritious and highly palatably, soft leaved forage bentgrass. It develops both stolons and rhizomes which produces a dense rooting system that tolerates heavy traffic and very close grazing. Giant produces excellent yield results under extreme stress and has very good sward density due to its extensive rhizomes and stolons. In the non-irrigated trial station at Brookings, South Dakota, GIANT out-yielded entries for bromegrass, orchardgrass, timothy and perennial ryegrass. GIANT is a salt tolerant variety, surviving for six weeks in a salt bath containing 17,000ppm salt (NaCl).
Uses
Silage / Hay / Grazing
Giant is highly versatile forage grass that can be used for grazing, silage, or hay. Giant is excellent component in almost any forage mix or can be used as a standalone crop. It’s robust stolons and rhizomes create a strong dense surface that can tolerate heavy traffic and close grazing.
When used in combination with other cool season grasses, GIANT will contribute a dense under canopy of high quality forage that can be utilized for grazing, green chop, or hay. It is a fact that horses and sheep are noted for grazing most grasses too low. GIANT withstands close grazing better than most grasses, and should be a component most pastures.
Fertility
Total fertility needs are dependent on the intended use of the crop and the environment.

Emarwan – Red Clover
Attributes
Emarwan is broadly adapted to a wide range of soil and climatic conditions. It grows best on well-drained loamy soils, but it will also grow on soil that is not as well-drained. Medium and fine textured soils are preferred by the plant over sandy or gravelly soils. It is widely adapted to soil pH between 5.5 – 7.6.
Growth Habitat
Emarwan may be seeded in pure stands, but it is often mixed with grain or grass. Spring or late summer seedings are satisfactory. It may be overseeded in the spring on fall seeded grasses. Emarwan seed should be inoculated. Phosphorus and potash are the fertilizer elements needed mostly by red clover. Apply as recommended by soil tests. Seeding may be done with a drill or broadcast. A firm, weed-free seedbed is essential. Plant seeds ¼ to ½ inch deep.
Plant Characteristics
Graze or cut for hay when the Emarwan is ¼ to ½ in bloom. A second cutting or successive grazings should occur when red clover is ¼ in bloom. Leave at least 2 inches of growth after each harvest.
Uses
Silage / Hay / Grazing
Emarwan is primarily used for hay, pasture, silage, and soil improvement. It extremely quick growing crop, easily established, and produces high quality forage. Tolerance of shade allows red clover to be used effectively as a cover crop under silage corn.
Switching cows from alfalfa to red clover could help reduce manure nitrogen levels and reduce protein breakdown in the silo. Results from a study showed greater milk production, a 10% feed efficiency, and a 10% greater energy value for cows fed red clover while nitrogen excretion was reduced by 1.5 tons per year per 100 cows.
Fertility
Emarwan comes pre-inoculated and once established, it does not require nitrogen fertilizer.
